On July 25th, 2024, Daniel and I exchanged vows in the most picturesque setting we could have ever imagined. But our journey to that day began long before, when a simple message on Twitter in 2018 sparked a connection that would change our lives forever.
We’re a modern couple, both hailing from Grand Island, Nebraska, though our lives took us on different paths for a while. I had moved back to Grand Island for work, while Daniel had just relocated to Kearney—the town I had just left behind in search of a new beginning. It was earlier that year when I found myself writing a wish in a prayer box, asking the universe to send someone who would truly understand me, someone who was just like me. I had always felt misunderstood, but then Daniel came into my life. We quickly discovered that we were so much alike, yet different in ways that made us perfect complements—he is the yin to my yang.
In 2021, our adventure together took us to Colorado, a place that had always held a special place in our hearts. The breathtaking landscapes, the towering mountains, and the endless skies felt like home. So, when Daniel proposed during a hike in 2023, there was no question in our minds where we wanted to get married. Colorado’s natural beauty, especially during peak wildflower season, was exactly what we envisioned for our special day.
We set out to find a venue that would capture the essence of what we loved about Colorado, without breaking the bank. After what felt like an endless search, we stumbled upon the perfect location: Crested Butte, Colorado’s wildflower capital. It was everything we had dreamed of and more—affordable, intimate, and surrounded by the stunning Elk Mountains. The venue was nestled away from the hustle and bustle, offering us a serene and secluded spot to say our vows.
Our wedding day was nothing short of magical. The ceremony was small and intimate, just as we had wanted, with only our closest family and friends in attendance. The setting was enhanced by shades of lavender, our chosen wedding colors, which complemented the natural beauty of the wildflowers that surrounded us. The flowers for our wedding were handpicked from a nearby farm, adding a personal and rustic touch to our day.
As we stood there, surrounded by the beauty of nature and the people we love most, we knew we had created something truly special. Our wedding was a reflection of who we are as a couple—simple, genuine, and deeply connected to the world around us. July 25th, 2024, will forever be a day we hold close to our hearts, a day where our love story became a beautiful reality amidst the wildflowers and mountains of Colorado.
